Residents in communities served by the Wilson’s Landing fire department are encouraged to watch Monday evening December 5 for the flashing lights signifying the annual department Santa Run food drive.
From 6 – 9 p.m. Santa joins department members on their festively glowing fire vehicles, travelling the streets and roads of the areas they serve from Traders Cove to Shelter Cove, collecting food and cash donations for the West Kelowna branch of the Central Okanagan Food Bank.
The evening of December 5, residents are asked to turn on their outside lights and leave their donation on their doorstep, porch or at the end of their driveway for firefighters to pick up.
Chief Paul Zydowicz says “Many families are coming off the pandemic facing additional economic challenges posed by inflation. Demand for food bank services is rising as well. Thanks to the generosity of residents in the communities we serve, our department’s Santa Run food collection continues to help families in need on the west side of Okanagan Lake.”
The 2021 Santa Run collected approximately 500 kilograms of food and $2000 in cash donations for the food bank.
